Bamboo Projects

Projects That Start with One Split

Every piece here began as a raw bamboo pole. We split it, shaved it, and wove it into something useful. These are the shapes patience takes.

What We Have Built Together

Browse finished work from our community, organized by skill level and purpose. Each entry includes the techniques used and the time it typically takes.
These projects represent real attempts by real makers. Some are polished, others show the honest texture of early practice.

Choose Your Shape

Decide what you want to make and how large it should be. A small basket needs fewer strips than a wide mat, and your first project should match the time you have available.

Prepare the Bamboo

Select a culm of appropriate length and diameter. Split it into sections following the grain, then shave each section into strips of uniform thickness for even weaving.

Weave the Structure

Interlace your strips according to the pattern you have chosen. Maintain consistent tension, check alignment regularly, and adjust early before the shape sets.

Finish and Trim

Tuck loose ends, trim excess material, and apply a light finish if desired. Let the piece rest so the fibers settle into their final form.
